In an increasingly interconnected world, Creative Connections' programs build bridges between students in the USA and their international peers through the exchange of art.

Please donate to our “Scholarship” fund enabling classes in Bridgeport, Norwalk, Harlem and other cities across the country to benefit from an ArtLink program.

Since 1993, Creative Connections, a 501(c)(3) non-profit international cultural exchange organization, has helped tens of thousands of students in the USA and in over 40 other countries gain a better awareness, understanding and appreciation of cultures in addition to their own. These exchanges teach cultural literacy and promote appreciation for other cultures, customs and traditions. ArtLink is a unique art exchange program designed for 3rd through 12th grade classes, which addresses numerous National Standards for art, social studies, and foreign languages.

Art from The Gambia

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 11:18 AM
This wonderful art piece was created in 2005 by a student from The Gambia while participating in our ArtLink program. We are thrilled to be welcoming back young artists from The Gambia to our Artlink programs this year.
"Fetching Water" by Aisha K. B., age 11(at the time) was a student from the Marina International School in Banjul, Gambia.
The young artist described her scene: "In our village, water is fetched from the village well. Here a woman and her daughter are carrying water in country clay pots and clay bowls. I chose this scene, because it was a long time since clay pots were used by women and girls to fetch water."
More about the artist, as she described herself at the time she created her art: "We belong to the Nlandinka tribe. We still spend a lot of our time in the village. I like reading and I hate bullies. I like being with my parents and like drawing.I spend my free time reading or watching cartoons and playing basketball. When I grow up I want to be a doctor, or a businesswoman, or an artist."

Special Visit with Our Friend from The Gambia

Wednesday, August 17, 2011 7:52 AM
On Tuesday August 16, 2011 we were visited by Fatou Bin Jobe from The Gambia, pictured here with Alan Steckler. Fatou is the head of Marina International School located in Banjul, the country's capital and she is also the founder of the ABC Learning Center in Banjul. Marina International School is The Gambia's premier international school. A Better Chance (ABC) Learning Center opened in April of 1998 in Banjul. ABC Learning Center is an after-school remedial program that focuses on helping middle and high school students with reading and writing skills.
Students from the Marina International School have been involved with our Artlink programs in the past and we are excited to welcome them back to participate with some of our US classes this fall.
Fatou is a gifted teacher, a brilliant administrator and an inspiration to everyone she meets! We all enjoyed having her here at Creative Connections for the day and we look forward to working with her and her students.
